Folk Bangle Bracelet – Matyó Rose

This luxurious rigid brass bangle, gold-plated through galvanization, features a hand-stitched beaded panel with an original design inspired by the iconic Matyó Rose motif.

I am a licensed holder of the Regional Product of the Košice Region trademark. This bracelet is also a unique regional product, created with pride and respect for local cultural heritage ♥️

The beaded panel was crafted using Miyuki seed beads in pastel pink, burgundy, matte purple, and gold-plated tones. Each bead is individually stitched by hand to the next, creating a detailed and durable pattern. The bracelet itself is a wide gold-colored bangle.

The beadwork alone took me approximately 16 hours to complete, not including the time spent designing the pattern based on the original embroidery motif.

The folk-inspired design is based on the world-famous Matyó Embroidery tradition.

This embroidery style is nearly 200 years old and is inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

About Matyó Embroidery

Originally, simple linen embroidery was stitched using red and blue cotton threads. These were later replaced by brightly coloured silk and wool yarns. Each colour carried a symbolic meaning: black represented the earth from which life and crops emerge; red symbolized joy; yellow stood for summer and sunshine; blue expressed sorrow that eventually fades. After the First World War, green became associated with mourning, and aprons were embroidered with green ribbons in memory of those lost in the war.

One of the most famous and widely used motifs is the peony, known as the Matyó Rose, celebrated for its rich colours and expressive beauty.
