Luxurious and unique statement earrings in the shape of a Matyó rose.

I designed these earrings as an accessory for a little black dress as part of the Hagyományok Háza (House of Traditions) project – “Little Black 2025” in Budapest.

For the creation of the earrings, I used garnet and ruby semi-precious stones, as well as Japanese Miyuki beads in pastel pink, burgundy, matte violet, and gold-plated tones. Each bead is hand-stitched.

The making process took me 18 hours, not including the time spent designing the rose shape inspired by traditional embroidery.

The folkloric motif comes from the world-famous Matyó embroidery. This embroidery is nearly 200 years old and is also inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

These earrings are currently exhibited in Budapest, and in spring they will be presented in Brussels and Istanbul. I can make them to order within one month!

About Matyó embroidery: Originally, simple linen embroideries were made using red and blue matte cotton threads. These were later replaced by bright silks and richly coloured wool yarns. Each colour had its own meaning. Black is the colour of the earth from which crops and life grow. Red represents joy, yellow is summer and the sun, blue is sorrow that fades away. After World War I, green appeared as the colour of mourning. In memory of war victims, aprons were embroidered with green ribbon.

One of the most famous and widespread motifs is the peony, also called the Matyó rose.

Author’s jewelry.
